Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before using ChainTax. By creating an account, you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. About ChainTax

ChainTax is operated by ChainTax Ltd (company number NI739302), registered in Northern Ireland. ChainTax is a tax calculation tool that sorts supported crypto activity and generates estimated UK tax reports.

ChainTax does not provide financial, legal, or tax advice. The figures generated are estimates based on on-chain data and published HMRC guidance. You are responsible for verifying all figures with a qualified tax adviser before filing any tax return.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and a UK tax resident to use ChainTax. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet these requirements.

3. Your account

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
  • You may not share your account or create multiple accounts.
  • Each ChainTax account is intended for one person’s personal tax position. Each plan includes a generous wallet allowance scaled to its tier; if you have a legitimate reason to add more wallets (multiple personal addresses, lost-key recovery, cold storage rotation), email hello@chaintax.co.uk and we’ll bump your limit.
  • Preparing crypto tax reports for clients or third parties requires our accountant plan. A personal account may not be used to run reports for multiple individuals or for any commercial tax-preparation service.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. The service

ChainTax provides the following:

What we provide

  • On-chain transaction fetching across 5 EVM chains (Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon)
  • Automatic sorting for supported DeFi activity using deterministic protocol-specific rules
  • HMRC-aligned tax calculations (Section 104, same-day, bed-and-breakfast matching)
  • Tax report generation (PDF and CSV)
  • SA108 box mapping for Self Assessment
  • CSV import: Coinbase, Binance and Kraken; Crypto.com App (beta); plus Koinly universal CSV (compatible format)

What we do not provide

  • Tax, financial, or legal advice
  • Guaranteed accuracy of results or calculations
  • Direct API connection to exchanges (CSV import only)
  • Coverage of all blockchain networks or DeFi protocols
  • Guaranteed coverage of every NFT activity; unsupported or unresolved activity is flagged for manual review

5. Free tier and paid plans

  • Free tier: Classify up to 200 transaction records account-wide. Report download requires a paid plan.
  • Light (£49): Up to 2,500 transaction records account-wide; report access for one selected tax year.
  • Active (£99): Up to 10,000 transaction records account-wide; report access for one selected tax year.
  • Concierge: Above 10,000 account-wide transaction records. Email hello@chaintax.co.uk for a fixed-price quote. We run the sync and deliver the report.

Plans are one-time payments per tax year, not subscriptions. Prices may change, and any change applies to new purchases only. Existing purchases are honoured at the price paid. You may upgrade within a tax year; upgrades are charged at the price difference.

Transaction-record capacity is shared across the account and does not reset by tax year. Your highest purchased tier sets that capacity. Each purchase separately unlocks reports for the selected tax year; paid tiers use the same calculation rules and review checks.

Concierge sync: For wallets above the 10,000-transaction self-serve cap, ChainTax offers a manual Concierge sync, quoted on a per-portfolio basis via hello@chaintax.co.uk. When you request a Concierge sync and pay the agreed quote, you authorise ChainTax to access on-chain transaction history for the public wallet addresses you supply, generate the report on your behalf, and provide 14 days of email support. We never request private keys, seed phrases, or exchange API credentials. Concierge data is stored on an internal service account and can be deleted on request once the report is delivered and the support window closes. See the Concierge service page and Privacy Policy for full detail.

6. Payments and refunds

Payments are processed by Stripe. ChainTax does not see or store your card details. All prices are in GBP and inclusive of VAT where applicable.

Cancellation: Under the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, consumers normally have 14 days from the contract date to cancel. Before payment, we ask you separately to expressly request immediate supply during that period and to acknowledge that the cancellation right ends once the digital report is supplied or downloaded. We record those choices and confirm them by email.

  • Before supply: you may cancel within 14 days by emailing us. If you asked us to begin a service before cancellation, any lawful deduction will be limited to the proportion already supplied.
  • After supply or download: the change-of-mind cancellation right ends where you gave the required express request and acknowledgement at checkout.

Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights where digital content or services are faulty, not as described, or not supplied with reasonable care and skill. Contact hello@chaintax.co.uk as soon as reasonably possible so we can investigate and provide any remedy required by law.

7. Acceptable use

You may not:

  • Use ChainTax for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to access accounts or data belonging to other users
  • Interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
  • Use automated tools to scrape or access the service beyond normal use
  • Submit false or misleading information

8. Intellectual property

All content, code, design, and branding of ChainTax is owned by or licensed to ChainTax Ltd. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works except as permitted by law or with our written permission.

Your data is yours. You retain full ownership of your transaction data and tax reports. You may export your data at any time via the in-app CSV export.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms excludes guarantees or remedies that apply under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other mandatory consumer law.

We do not warrant that every transaction will be correctly classified. Tax calculations are estimates based on published HMRC guidance and on-chain data. Some transactions may be classified as Unknown and require manual review.

You remain responsible for reviewing and filing your Self Assessment return. Always verify your figures with a qualified tax adviser before filing.

10. Limitation of liability

  • If you are a consumer, we are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable or for business losses.
  • If you use ChainTax wholly or mainly for business purposes, our aggregate liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, except where the law does not permit that limit.
  • We are not responsible for errors caused by incomplete, inaccurate, unsupported, or unreviewed source data that you provide or choose to rely on, but this does not remove our responsibility for our own breach or negligence.
  • Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by the law of Northern Ireland.

11. Data and privacy

Your use of ChainTax is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. By using ChainTax, you acknowledge the collection and processing of data as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Termination

  • You may delete your account from Settings or by contacting hello@chaintax.co.uk. Operational account data is removed, but we retain a detached minimum commercial record where required for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, or legal-claims purposes. The Privacy Notice explains this.
  • We may suspend access where reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, non-payment, misuse, or a material breach. Where practicable, we will explain the reason and allow a reasonable opportunity to remedy it before termination.
  • If we end a paid service for a reason unrelated to your breach and have not supplied the relevant report, we will provide an appropriate refund.
  • Sections 9 (Disclaimer), 10 (Liability), 14 (Governing law), and this section survive termination.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms for changes in law, regulation, security, technology, or the service. Changes do not retrospectively alter a completed purchase. We will give reasonable advance notice of material changes by email or an in-product notice and explain when they take effect. If a material change applies to an ongoing service and disadvantages you, you may stop using the service and close your account before it takes effect.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Northern Ireland. If you are a consumer, you also retain the benefit of any mandatory protections in the part of the UK where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of Northern Ireland, England and Wales, Scotland, or your home jurisdiction where applicable. Business disputes are subject to the courts of Northern Ireland.
